Info: Utica Coffee owners Frank and Heather Elias commissioned this project by hiring Angela DeCarlis to paint and oversee other artists. Frank and Heather purchased the paint exclusively from Urbaniks with the exception of the spray paint which was purchased from The Art Store in Syracuse, NY. The remaining paint was donated for future mural projects.
About the artists: Angela D was hired to oversee the project and got the 10 artists together who all chose a spot on the wall. They were given total creative freedom (as long as there was nothing offensive!). Heather from Utica Coffee said, “They were given no direction, honestly. As you can tell by what was painted that most of them painted something coffee-related which was awesome. One of the artists had never painted such a large mural, so that really made me feel good to be able to offer them this opportunity.”
About the mural: Frank and Heather said, “We recognized the positive impact the artwork would have on this community. The positive messages being shared on social media promoting this city and connecting people within the community has been inspirational. We need way more of this stuff. The project was 100% privately funded, using all local artists. Supporting local artists to get more of this art displayed throughout the city was our intent.”
