The Boilermaker: A Brief History
In 1978, the Boilermaker began as a 15K road race with 876 runners, created to celebrate founding sponsor, Utica Boiler’s, 50th anniversary. Today, it is a week-long extravaganza drawing over 20,000 runners, spectators, and volunteers.

- The Boilermaker is always run on the second Sunday of July. The date for the 2026 Boilermaker Road Race is Sunday, July 12, 2026.
- The 5K Race starts at 7:15 AM, the Wheelchair Race starts at 7:45 AM, and the 15K Race starts at 8:00 AM.
How do I register for the Boilermaker?
- Register for the Boilermaker online, via the official race website.
- Registration will remain open until March 8, 2026, at 11:59 PM, or once all race caps are met.
What if it rains on race day?
- All Boilermaker events are held rain or shine.
What hotel, travel, and parking accommodations are available to participants and spectators?
- A number of area hotels are within a short drive of downtown Utica.
- Street parking is extremely limited, however, there are new parking options available near the finish area.
Are there shuttles available for Boilermaker participants?
- Yes, shuttles will operate from 6:00 AM until 7:45 AM on race day, traveling between the finish area and the 15k Race start line.
- Shuttles will also be available for participants of the 5k Race.
- There is no shuttle service between the starting locations of the 5k and 15k race.
