The Inaugural Woods Fest Music Festival

35114746 10156006146189405 8976795073878425600 oThe Woods Fest Music Festival is slated to make its debut on Saturday, August 18, 2018. The event will take place on the slopes of Woods Valley Ski Area, Oneida County’s beloved winter destination that has served outdoor-lovers for more than 50 years.

A line-up of musical talent, all hailing from the Central New York area, will entertain visitors throughout the day on two stages, beginning at 11:00 a.m. (See schedule below). In addition to the stellar live music line-up, local food trucks will be on-site to feed hungry festival-goers.

Members of the Heart of New York Craft Beverage Trail, including Copper City Brewing Company, Woodland Farm Brewery, 16 Stone Brewpub, and Villa Verona Vineyard and Bistro will also be there, pouring your favorite craft beverages all day long.

Want to center yourself before the festivities begin? Alanna Bone of Just Breathe Yoga Studio will lead a yoga class starting at 10:00 a.m.

In response to why yoga is a good way to kick-off the party, Bone said, “The definition of ‘yoga’ is ‘union’ and music is also known for uniting people, so I couldn’t think of a more perfect start to the day.”

The event is family friendly, with Varano Super Jump providing hours of fun with their inflatable bounce houses.

The Woods Fest Music Festival is hosted by Copper City Brewing Company and Woods Valley Ski Area. According to festival organizer Mike Kohli, the Woods family initially got the ball rolling for the event. Kohli was discussing band bookings earlier this winter with Tim Woods, owner of Woods Valley. Danny Frieden of Copper City Brewing Company was there, too. All three men loved the idea of working together to bring in local musicians—and a new music festival was born.

Kohli stressed that one of the best things about putting this event together has been the collaboration of local, family-oriented businesses.

“The community all came together to make this happen. Everyone—Woods Valley, Copper City, the Heart of New York Beverage Trail—everyone worked together.”

He also added that the sponsors are all customers and friends who chipped in to make it possible.

For an event in its first year, the response so far has been positive. Kohli said that the interest shown on social media has exceeded his expectations. Within a week of announcing the event, more than 1500 people had indicated they were interested or attending. “Even if we get a third of that number, that’ll be tremendous,” he said.

Kohli is hoping to build on a successful inaugural event and perhaps grow it, slowly and organically, into something bigger in years to come.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Tickets are available at Snubbing Post and Copper City Brewing Company, or online at www.woodsvalleyskiarea.com. Kids 12 and under are free with an accompanying adult.
