Leaping Into February!
Ok, it’s mid-winter and whether you love or hate snow, it’s been pretty mild so far. But that doesn’t mean that you, your kids or your friends aren’t feeling the effects of cabin fever. This seems like the time of year when everyone needs a little push to get out and explore. And luckily for you, we’ve made a list with different ideas on what to do. The options in this blog range from family events to Valentine’s Day celebrations to everything else in between!
Turning Stone Resort Casino
2020 Home Show at Turning Stone (February 7-9) – This home show is in its 9th year and takes place at the Turning Stone event center. There will be experts from home services companies on hand all weekend to help with any aspect of homeownership and upkeep! There will be vendors (including us!), daily giveaways (TVs & and a new shed!), a free garden & landscape seminar, cooking demos and so much more! The event is family-friendly; tix are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, military & first responders, and kids under 16 are free. Check their page to get an admission coupon! Hours: Friday 1-7pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, Sunday 10am-5pm.
Piff the Magic Dragon (February 8) – Think Larry David in a dragon suit performing jaw-dropping magic tricks. Piff was a stand-out star on NBC’s America’s Got Talent! Event is in The Showroom!
Brett Young: The Chapters Tour (February 13) – ACM’s “New Male Vocalist of the Year” will hit the Event Center stage for his only show in upstate NY! Tickets range from $37-$79.
Dustin Lynch (February 29) – The country favorite will be performing at Turning Stone!

Cathie Timian Band (February 7) – Head to Vernon Downs for date night or a night out with friends! A little dinner, gambling and then some dancing to live music with Cathie Timian & The Hired Hands!
K.O. Grainger (February 21) – A mix of common rock, modern country, dance, 80s, pop, country and more! Show starts at 8pm!
RENT Presented by Broadway Utica (February 6) – Happening at the Stanley Theater in Utica. This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning masterpiece is returning to the sage in a vibrant 20th anniversary touring production!
Cinema Capitol Oscars Viewing Party 2020 (February 9) – Join the Cinema Capitol in Rome for their annual Oscars Viewing Party! $10 admission includes one beverage ticket + access to the green room spread and unlimited popcorn! There’s a red carpet show in Cinema Auditorium #2 from 7:15-8pm. Auditorium 1 will show a selection of Oscar-nominated shorts. Not into the red carpet? Come early and just eat some snacks, have a drink and hang!
Oak Ridge Boys (February 13) – America’s most iconic country music quartet is performing at The Stanley! The five-time Grammy Award winning band will play fan favorites from their 2020 tour. They were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015 & are known for exciting shows!
Get The Led Out (GTLO) (February 22) – Happening at the Stanley Theater. From the bombastic and epic to the folky and musical, GTLO has captured the essence of the recorded music of Led Zeppelin and brought it to the stage. This Philadelphia-based group consists of six veteran musicians who will rock the stage.
Leap Into the New Year Open Mic! (February 29) – Open Mic Night returns to Players of Utica! Join for a night of entertainment during this leap day event. Whether your talent is comedy, music, dance, or spoken word, pick up the mic and express yourself! If you’re not into performing, stop by and support some great local talent. Admission is $10 at the door.
Art & Museums
First Fridays Happy Hour: Dirty Blanket (February 7) – Enjoy a cozy winter night with First Friday Happy Hour at Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute! Music by Dirty Blanket, a full string band, will have your feet stomping. Enjoy delicious Spanish food by Sarita’s Food Truck. The museum shop will feature its annual Sweetheart Sale, plus crafts and micro-tours. $5 is the suggested admission!
Peace, Love & Art KACelebration! (February 8) – Wear your hippest threads or come as you are! This KACelebration is happening at the Kirkland Art Center in Clinton. Advance sale tix are $40 ($45 at the door) and includes hors d’oeuvres, drinks and all your favorite tunes from the 60s. There will be a silent auction of extraordinary experiences, artwork and more!
SUM Artists: Visual Diagrams & System Based Explorations (February 15 thru…) – Happening at the Wellin Museum at Hamilton College, this exhibition will host an opening reception on 2/15 from 4-6pm. It presents several generations of artists who, in sum, investigate and visualize divergent subjects of pressing concern (arts, culture, history, race, etc.). The Wellin is free to visit! There will be several other upcoming events associated with this exhibition too.
Emerald Rae (February 22) – Happening at the Kirkland Art Center, Emerald Rae pairs her captivating vocals with an impressive range of melodic and percussive fiddle accompaniment. Join for a night of drinks, mingling and world-class music. Tix $12 members/$16 non-members!
Better Than Bowling (February 28) – Happening at Unity Hall in Barneveld. CNY’s Better than Bowling is a 5-piece classic rock group with powerful vocal harmonies and shredding solos. Tix are $15 for members/$12 non-members!
The White Party (February 14) – Happening at Daniele’s Valley View, this will be a cocktail party like no other. The attire, décor and entire night are WHITE! A Vitullo will be giving away a $500 store certificate to the Best Dressed Masquerade (white of course). Single tix are $55 but there are discounted options for groups of 4 & 6! You’ll get live music from Soul Injection, heavy hors d’oeuvres, one hour premium open bar & complimentary tastings of champagne, wine, hard seltzer and vodka. This event will also help support our Veterans at the Utica Center for Development/CNY Veteran’s Outreach Center! Come out for a great cause, plus a unique and fun night out with your friends or Valentine!
Parents’ Night Out (February 14) – The Utica Children’s Museum is hosting a Night at the Museum where kids can enjoy rare evening hours while parents can have a few hours to enjoy Valentine’s Day out on the town! Check below for more details on what the kids can do!
Lonely Hearts Club (February 14) – Happening at the 1888 Tavern at Saranac Brewery. Stop by from 12-6pm for a killer playlist & $1 off all drinks and limited light food!

Night at the Museum (February 14) – Parents can drop their kids off at the Utica Children’s Museum for this event that will include free play, pizza and drinks, activities and crafts and a TV show on the big inflatable screen. Tickets are $15/per child but there’s a Palentine’s Day Special where kids can bring a friend for just $10. Call (315) 724-6129 to reserve!
KROCK Kids Sleepover (February 15) – Keep the kids busy during winter break with this event at Delta Hotels by Marriott in Utica. Book your room for $179; included is a pizza party, pool party, ice cream social, dance party, coloring contest, magic & so much more!
Winter in the Wild (February 29) – The Utica Zoo plans to embrace winter fully… and who better to help kick off this inaugural event than Utica Zoo Winter Ambassador & Remsen native Erin Hamlin! There will be all types of events like a chili cook off, snowshoe and luge demos, snowshoeing, s’mores by the fire, scavenger hunt, winter animal keeper talks, crafts and SO much more! Children’s Museum February Events – The Utica Children’s Museum has a February calendar packed with events for the kids. There will be Saturday craft days, Utica Day, Weather Day, Circus Day and so much more. Check their page for the full calendar!
Snowtubing at Woods Valley – Did you know Woods Valley offers snowtubing?! Please note, their tubing schedule is subject to change due to weather and snow conditions. Always check their page for daily updates. As of now, tubing will be available 2/7-9 and starting 2/14, tubing every day through 2/23. This is a fun winter adventure that gives everyone (kids and adults) the chance to slide, glide and ride!
Battle of the Colleges (February 7) – This is an Esports tournament happening at the Adirondack Bank Center where participating colleges will compete in Rocket League and Super Smash Bros tournaments for a chance to win up to $5,000. Rocket League is a fantastical sport-based video game that features competitive game mode based on teamwork and outmaneuvering opponents. This super unique event is open to the public with a $10 admission and will also feature great vendors featuring video games, comic books, toys, art and more.
American Ninja Warriors Daniel Gil & Jonathan Horton (February 13) – Part of the MVCC Cultural Series, guests can learn from these two American Ninja Warrior regulars! Admission is $10 general, $5 employees/children under 12.
WRR Vintage Snowmobile Ride (February 16) – For the snowmobilers in your life! This ride is with the West Rome Riders and will meet, leave and return to the parking lot at the Erie Canal Village in Rome.
6th Annual Moonlight Trail Night (February 22) – Happening at Delta Lake State Park from 6-9pm. If snow permits, FREE horse-drawn sleigh rides (or a wagon if we don’t have snow), groomed trails for walking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, lantern lit trails, shorter family walks, food trucks, coffee, bake sales, fire pit & music! Admission $5 donation, kids 8 and under are free; well-mannered, leashed dogs are welcome.
CCBC Annual Febtoberfest (February 29) – Copper City Brewing Company will be offering fresh Marzen beir and slamming polka tunes by Fritz’s Polka Band. Beer and fun all day, music 7-9pm!
