Hop on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad to See Central New York at its Autumn Best
Oneida County is blessed with its place on the map, which marks it as the foothills of Adirondack Park. This makes it the perfect jumping off point for the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, a tourist attraction for all ages that showcases the splendor of upstate New York’s scenery, the grand architecture of its train stations, and the friendly community that makes it all happen. Read the descriptions of upcoming trips, and then grab your crew for a train ride you won’t forget.
UTICA TO THENDARA
The Fall Foliage trip is dedicated solely to enjoying upstate New York in all its autumn glory. The train traverses bucolic scenery complete with streams and forests for approximately two hours. A brief stop is made in Thendara before heading back to Utica Station. If you’d like more time to explore, opt for the Utica to Thendara with Layover. This includes a full afternoon in Old Forge, a tiny—but very popular—hamlet chock full of restaurants, cafes, and local boutiques. A shuttle bus transports passengers between Thendara and Old Forge. Can’t get enough of Old Forge? Stay overnight and catch the train back to Utica the next day.
UTICA TO BIG MOOSE
Choose between two trips to Big Moose, which is the longest ride offered from Utica Station. Utica to Big Moose with Lunch includes a hearty meal at Big Moose Station Restaurant. Another option is Utica to Big Moose Adventure, where passengers have the choice of disembarking at Big Moose Station and then hiking or biking to the next station to meet the train for the ride home. Bring your own bicycle or rent one from www.mountainoutdoors.com.
UTICA TO REMSEN
The Beer and Wine Train features an evening of live music, light snacks, and beer and wine samples enroute to Remsen Depot, which is a replica of the original nineteenth century train station. This event is open to ages 21 and older. Alcohol is not included in ticket prices.

Enjoy a winter wonderland from Utica to Thendara on the Adirondack Christmas Train. This itinerary includes a full afternoon stopover in Old Forge, where “Christmas on Main Street” will be in full swing. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride, meet Santa and Mrs. Clause, and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.
The Polar Express Train Ride is one of the most popular annual traditions on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. Starting in Utica, kids and adults alike will stay cozy with servings of hot chocolate and cookies, while listening to a reading of The Polar Express. At the North Pole—also known as Holland Patent Station—Santa Clause will hop on the train for the return trip. To evoke the true feel of Christmas morning, everyone is encouraged to wear their pajamas.
