2020 Oneida County Travel Guide

I've never been so excited to release our annual travel guide yet so conflicted with uncertainty about this unprecedented time we are experiencing together. We sincerely thank our industry partners for their advertising support, the Utica Observer Dispatch and IntrexDesign Associates for their fantastic work and partnership in designing and publishing the official Oneida County 2020 Travel Guide. We are blessed to live, work and play in Central New York. Blessed with extensive natural resources and outdoor activities, exceptional arts, cultural and historic sites. Blessed to be an easily accessible drive market. And as you all know, blessed with amazing restaurants! The biggest blessing is you...the kind and caring people who call Oneida County and Central New York home.
It's an honor and privilege to promote all of the wonderful things to see and do in Oneida County. We encourage you to read the travel guide and use it to make plans to explore the County in the coming months as we all start to adjust to what our new "norm" will be. If you learn something new or find something that peaks your interest in the guide, consider sharing it on social media with your friends and family. Every industry sector is suffering during this crisis. The travel and hospitality industry is nearly shuttered, but will rebound from this. Our many blessings will carry us through to brighter days, especially you, the beautiful people we know and love as our neighbors, friends and family. Consider following us on social media. Tag us at #ocnewyork when you share something about our area, share your take-out/carry-out selfie, and share simple acts of kindness. Blessings to our local government officials, our healthcare workers, and all of you from the Oneida County Tourism Board of Directors and staff.

Cover TravelGuide2020 WebThe guide is designed to capture the attention of our target audience including young families, couples, and outdoor recreation enthusiasts with impressive visuals and useful information. There are special sections for a variety of interest groups including families, foodies, art lovers, heritage travelers, golfers, fisherman, winter adventurers, sports buffs and more. The guide offers something for everyone with contemporary and historic facts presented throughout that call attention to the area’s unique and interesting features.

Beyond the all new design, the 2020 travel guide contains a new map of attractions illustrated by Price Design, suggested itineraries for Utica, Rome, North Country, Southern Hills, and Sylvan Beach area, an expanded calendar of events section, the Central New York Cheese Trail, new feature stories and “What to Know” call outs.

The cover photo features Wagner Farms’ sunflower fields in Rome and highlights the bureau’s Sunflower Selfie Project for 2020. Visitors and residents alike will be encouraged to visit Wagner Farms mid-July through mid-September and post a selfie in the sunflower fields in support of the 100th anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote! Why sunflowers? Elizabeth Cady Stanton, of nearby Johnstown, was a steadfast leader of the early women’s rights movement. Stanton wrote articles under the pseudonym “Sunflower,” forever making the beauty of the sunflower the symbol of women’s rights.

The annual publication will be distributed throughout the Northeast and is available at Oneida County Welcome Centers located at NYS Thruway, Exit 31 and in Union Station, Utica, as well as various locations throughout the County. Local businesses should contact Shondel Washington at 315-724-7221 or email your request to info@oneidacountytourism.com for larger quantities. Many thanks and appreciation to the advertisers and the Utica Observer Dispatch for continued support of Oneida County’s official travel publication. 80,000+ copies of the 2020 guide were printed for distribution.
