Please join us for the opening reception for a solo exhibition by Victoria Mele Zacek on Friday, December 6 from 4:30 to 6:30pm, at Sculpture Space, 12 Gates Street, Utica. This solo exhibition by Victoria Mele Zacek, entitled “Going the Way of the Dodo” is a retrospective of work spanning from 2006 through the present. The exhibition will be on view through December 18, with an artist talk on December 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Victoria Mele Zacek is a fiber artist and earned her BFA in Fine Arts and MFA in Fiber Arts and Material Studies from Syracuse University. Her family owned and operated Mele Manufacturing, “America’s Foremost Name in Jewelry Cases”, since 1912. Victoria is involved with the Mele Family Fund, a philanthropic fund managed through the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties. She has served as a board member of Sculpture Space since 2006. Victoria currently lives in Barneveld, New York.
“Going the Way of the Dodo” is an accumulation of multimedia and sculptural works encompassing the idea of anthropogenic extinction. These works represent how humans have dramatically affected our environment, particularly for specific bird and animal species which are now endangered, threatened or extinct.
