Carole King was so petrified by the prospect of performing her own songs live that she refused to tour. Another inherently bashful musician gave her little choice. Carly played piano backing James Taylor at the Troubador in Los Angeles in the early 70's. James introduced her and then asked her to do a couple of her songs. Rattled but not wanting to embarrass James and herself by refusing, she tentatively began to play and sing. The audience reaction was so instantly positive and supportive that she quickly gained confidence and got over her stage fright.
King's first concert outside the US was at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival. It was a command performance. Enjoy it in good company on the giant HD screen at Unity Hall.
Doors open at 6:30. Admission is free, and refreshments are available.
This will be the 2019 finale of John Stewart's Classic Rock Film Series at Unity Hall. Look forward to future screenings starting in the spring.
