On Thursday, July 11, the Chamber, City, and community partners will host more than 700 bicycle riders and support staff on their way from Buffalo to Albany during the 21st annual 8-day Cycle the Erie Bike Tour presented by NY Parks and Trails, https://www.ptny.org/cycle-the-erie-canal/annual-bike-tour.  The riders will camp on the west lawn of Fort Stanwix while Chamber and Fort representatives staff the Welcome Tent and provide information about places to eat, visit, and shop.  Everybody wins when local purchases are made, and menus of Chamber members will be included in the reference material for our visitors to peruse.  The Chamber sincerely appreciates the City’s and the Fort’s cooperation and support, as we do Oneida County Tourism for providing cross-town shuttle bus service to Chamber member restaurants and places to shop not within walking distance of the Fort.  After enjoying breakfast at the Rome YMCA Friday morning our visitors will depart for Canajoharie!

Thursday, July 11

2-7pm:  Chamber of Commerce and Fort Stanwix representatives will be at the Welcome Tent at the Fort with community information.  Rome Mayor Jackie Izzo will be visiting the site during the course of the afternoon to welcome our visitors.

4-9pm:

  • Shuttle buses will pick-up/drop-off at the intersection of W Liberty St and N James St, taking our guests to and from restaurants and shopping areas, though many restaurants and places to shop are in walking distance.
  • Rome Capitol Theatre Summerstage presents “Shrek, the Musical” at 7:30pm, $19 adult admission.  Movies, Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Wrong Man” at 7pm, “Loopers: the Caddie’s Long Walk” at 7:15pm, will be at Cinema Capitol.
  • Learn more about Rome and the history of Fort Stanwix at the Visitor Center and the Rome Historical Society.  Guided tours of the Fort leave the Visitor Center at 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30, and 8pm.  The Historical Society open until 7pm, is adjacent to Gansevoort Park, located behind the Welcome Tent.
  • 3-8pm, Copper City Brewing’s Beer Garden in Gansevoort Park, offering fresh craft beer brewed in Rome, non-alcoholic beverages, and food!
