Organized in 1963, The Children's Museum of History, Science & Technology, 311 Main Street in Utica NY, in a five-story NYS & Federal historic brick building constructed at the turn of the century, retains its Romanesque Revival exterior, inside paneled oak staircase, 14 ft pressed tin ceilings, loft windows. Permanently chartered by NYS Board of Regents in history, the arts, and science, its 100’s of interactive exhibits in 24,000 sq ft on 4 floors, provide an enjoyable educational experience for schools, scouts, daycare centers, tourists. In 2002, the 4th floor opened, and it became the only museum in the country to be adopted by NASA & the Office of Science.

 

 

Directions

From Points North: Take Route 12 South to Utica. Exit at Rt. 5S East/ Downtown Utica exit staying in left lane. Follow the signs to Children's Museum (or the signs to Union Station, as we're right next door to them). Turn onto Broad St., Turn Left onto Railroad Street, Turn Left onto Main Street. (Museum is on the corner with signage on the building).

From Points South: Take Rt. 12 Northbound into Utica onto the Downtown Utica/Rt. 5S/5A exit - stay to the left on the ramp - follow signs for downtown Utica. Follow the signs to Children's Museum (or signs to Union Station, as we're right next door to them). Turn onto Broad St., Turn Left onto Railroad Street, Turn Left onto Main St. (Museum is on the corner with signage).

From Points East: From New York City, take the I-87/I-287 W exit, exit #9W, towards Albany. 0.3 miles ( 0.5 km) Merge onto New York State TRWY (Portions toll). 23.9 miles ( 38.4 km) New York State TRWY becomes I-87 N (Portions toll). 103.3 miles ( 166.2 km) Take I-90 West Ramp towards Buffalo. 0.4 miles ( 0.7 km) Take the exit. 0.3 miles ( 0.5 km) Merge onto New York State TRWY (Portions toll). 83.9 miles ( 135.0 km) Take Exit number 31 towards RT-8 / RT-12 / Utica. When you exit the thruway follow the ramp on the left, toward Genesee Street South - downtown Utica. At the stop sign make a right turn onto Genesee Street. You will continue southbound on Genesee Street, driving over the Barge Canal and Mohawk River Bridges. Just before the railroad bridge, you will see a Y up ahead. Make sure to bear right, following the sign to Broad Street / Route 5S. At the stop light, turn Left onto Broad Street. Shortly after the next stop light on Broad Street, turn Left onto Railroad Street. Take your first Left onto Main Street (Museum is on the corner, right next to the train station, with signage on the building). From Points West: From Buffalo, Merge onto I-90 E / NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY E toward I-290 / ALBANY (Portions toll). 188.6 miles Take Exit number 31 towards RT-8 / RT-12 / Utica. When you exit the thruway follow the ramp on the left, toward Genesee Street South - downtown Utica. At the stop sign make a right turn onto Genesee Street. You will continue southbound on Genesee Street, driving over the Barge Canal and Mohawk River Bridges. Just before the railroad bridge, you will see a Y up ahead.
